Mummy’s Treasure is a puzzle game that will really get you thinking. It’s one of those games that seem easy and kind of boring at first, but if you keep playing, you’ll be amazed at just how challenging it is.
This is not an action packed thriller; if you’re looking for that, look elsewhere. If you want to really challenge your brain, however, this is the game for you. The gameplay and interface are great and when you start every level there is a tutorial for how to work the new stuff into the game, which I have to say, I appreciate. Nothings is worse than sitting there trying to figure out yourself how to play and if what you’re doing makes sense.
Gameplay is simple. You’re in what looks like the inside of a pyramid, and faced with a bunch of blocks. You want to keep golden kings and coins, but get rid of skeletons and mummies. You’ll see blocks and other things, which can stay or go. As you keep playing through the levels, you’ll see that everything is stacked in more complex ways, leaving you to have to figure out which order to get rid of things to keep what you want. Collect jewels along the way for more points and unlock the levels as you go.
The graphics are great, and the music fits; it’s just a bit menacing but kind of slow and relaxed at the same time so you can think about the puzzles at hand. I didn’t notice any glitches or lagging gameplay either, which can make a great game really frustrating. One of the things I love (and I wish more games would incorporate) is the fact that if you realize in the middle of the level you did something wrong and won’t be able to finish the puzzle, you can tap a button in the top left corner to start the level over immediately. No going back through menus to restart. Trust me, as you keep playing through, you’ll find this to be a key feature in solving the puzzles. You’ll make mistakes, but it’s easy to go back and start over.
Overall, this is a great game. Don’t be scared off if you aren’t really interested in Egyptian Pyramids and mummies, the gameplay is excellent and the puzzles are really fun. It can be a bit of a challenge, but that just makes you want to keep playing as long as you can. If you’re looking for a great apps free puzzle game, this is it.
