Zygna Poker: ALL IN!!!
I love to play Texas Hold ‘Em Poker, and while it’s more fun to play for real money, this can be expensive.
This is where Zyna Poker comes in. This game started as a Facebook app and like other popular Facebook games, was made into an iPhone app. The whole point is that you can play Texas Hold ‘Em with other Facebook members. You’re not playing for real money of course, but it is fun.
I downloaded this app when it first came out and was pretty unimpressed. It was slow and buggy; add that to the time it took people to play (the amount of time someone has to make a decision was just too long back then, and connections weren’t as good, it took forever!), and it was just not fun. I deleted it pretty soon after I got it.
So when a friend of mine started playing again, I was convinced to give it another try. While it still has some flaws, it is a huge improvement over the previous version. The gameplay is smooth and flawless (for the most part), and if it weren’t for the other players, it would probably be a pretty fun game.
Yes, I know that how people play is not in any way a fault of the developers of the game, but I have to mention it. They are terrible. Seriously. I am no professional, not even close, but almost every time I play this game, I almost immediately want to book a trip to Vegas and sit at the poker tables. And I would never play poker in Vegas. But, that’s poker I suppose.
The graphics are really good, and much better than the Facebook app. The sound effects are really good and I’ve tried to play without the sound; it’s just not the same. The interface is easy to navigate, and for the most part, you get smooth, uninterrupted play.
As for the flaws, well there are several. For starters it crashes almost every time I open it. When I open it a second time it works. This is kind of annoying. Not as annoying as when it crashes in the middle of a hand when I’m on the verge of a Flush. It doesn’t crash all that often after I first open it, but when it does it always seems that I might have a good hand.
There also seems to be a bug in the sound sometime too, where it doubles up the noises. So when you hear the whoosh of someone folding, you actually get two whooshes in a row. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but this is super annoying too.
Besides a few minor bugs, there seem to be some things that can be updated. You have two options for play. One is to play in a tournament with 9 people, the other is to just play tables with different blind amounts. I usually choose a game with a $40,000 max buy in, with 5 players. It would be nice if it would remember this every time so I didn’t have to scroll down from the default. The reason I usually play the $40,000 max is because if I choose higher, it puts me in a $20 buy in game. I know it’s not real money, but virtual or not, it’s just not fun to bet $4. And while you’ll find the good and bad players in every game, the really bad ones navigate near the bottom.
Overall, if you like to play Texas Hold ‘Em on the go, I doubt there is a better app than Zygna Poker. It’s fun, it’s free and you can play with your friends or strangers or both. It’s not the best free apps, but it’s pretty good. If you haven’t tried it, I don’t know what you’re waiting for.
